Question:        

If a 6 x 8 x 11 wooden block is painted orange and then cut into 1 x 1 x 1 cubes, how many of these 528 cubes will have orange paint on exactly two faces?

Answer:

76.  Solution: The cubes with two orange faces are along the edges between the corners.  The edges of length 6 will have 4 of these cubes between the two corners.  Similarly, the edges of length 8 will have 6 of these cubes, and the edges of length 11 will have 9 of these cubes.  There are four of each type of edge, so the total is 4 x (4+6+9) = 76.
