Data Quality Report Enhancements

One of our top priorities at NISS is to continually update and improve the tools and resources available to our member companies. Beginning with the 2017 Call Year, enhanced data quality reports will be available for Homeowners, Inland Marine, Farmowners, Fidelity, Forgery and Surety, and Burglary and Theft. All of the data quality reports for these lines will now be in a user-friendly PDF, with coding errors displayed in red for a cleaner look and easier readability. Other enhancements include:

  • The Comma-Delimited Error File will now pull through any information in the "Reserved For Company Use" field, which can help companies easily track down specific records.
  • The Edit Error Summary is a new data quality report that summarizes data by invalid errors, which makes it simple to identify which errors are most critical to correct.
  • The Average Premium Report (HO only) shows company specific average premiums in the same format as the NAIC Average Premium report to allow for comparisons (coming with the 2018 Call).

These enhancements should make the review of your data more informative and help to more easily identify any data issues that need to be addressed. These enhancements will be applied to all lines of business in the future, so keep an eye out for upcoming announcements!

New Excess Reporting Option

Last year, NISS announced a new option for reporting loss data which will eliminate the need for a separate Excess submission. The alternative reporting option is available for all lines in which an Excess submission is currently required, including Voluntary Auto, North Carolina Auto (AQR), Assigned Risk Auto, General Liability and Medical Professional Liability (including liability in the CLSP Call). In order to take advantage of this opportunity, you will need to:

  1. Submit a one-time Final Submission of Excess
  2. Begin including claim and claimant numbers in your mainline data submission

As you prepare your 2017 Calls, we want to remind you of the new Excess Loss reporting option. For more information and instructions, please click here. As we continue to make the reporting process as simple as possible for our member companies, we know your company will benefit from this new option.
