Using the NISS Edit Software

NISS has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from member companies that have used our Edit Software. As we enter the 2014 Call Year, if you have never utilized the free Edit Software we encourage you to try this helpful resource. The NISS Edit Software is designed to allow member companies to edit their submissions at the desktop level and to view a separate distribution of their data. To do this, simply follow these steps:

  1. Download the Edit Software (an Access database) from the NISS website
  2. Import your data file
  3. Run the edits
  4. View reports to review your data file

Some of the features of the database include viewing error counts, checking transmittal balancing, and viewing basic reasonability tests. This information can help you identify and correct any data issues prior to the data submission to NISS. After our upcoming March release of the Edit Software for Burglary and Theft, Fidelity, Forgery and Surety, Inland Marine, and Farmowners, the software will be available for all NISS lines of business.

A new video tutorial will soon be released which further details the Edit Software uses and features.  Both the Edit Software and the corresponding documentation and instructions are available for download (free of charge) under the Edit Tools dropdown from the member's side of the NISS website. We look forward to continuing to provide helpful resources to make the reporting process as simple as possible.

2014 NISS Workshop

The annual NISS Statistical Workshop will be held at our Indianapolis office on Monday, May 19, 2014. The workshop covers a range of topics, including:

  • a brief history of statistical reporting
  • terms and concepts
  • an overview of the NISS internal flow of data
  • annual statement reconciliation
  • resources and reporting tips
  • edit tools (including Edit Software)
  • explanation of reports sent on behalf of member companies
  • frequently found errors

It also includes a thorough walkthrough of the NISS website, including tutorials on the member-interactive features. The workshop is fairly technical in nature and primarily directed to staff members that are involved in the details of data management and statistical reporting. It is also a wonderful opportunity to meet the NISS Staff. For registration information, please click here. We hope to see you there!
