Growth and Efficiency - two words that represent the keys to success in business; two words that have a lot of meaning here at NISS. And, for 2001, two words that meant an 8% return for NISS member companies. The combination of NISS growth and efficiencies in 2001 resulted in excess assessment funds which the NISS officers decided to return to NISS member companies. A very rare occurrence in our “statistical agent” business.

Over the past decade, membership in NISS has more than doubled. An expanding membership has been a goal of the NISS Board of Directors during this period and the targets that they've set for our staff and that the staff has met have enabled us to plan for and manage our growth. Because of our planning, our growth has not disrupted our excellent customer service nor has it caught us short handed.

Our efficient operation has allowed us to manage our costs effectively. Our growth in member companies has outpaced our growth in expenditures. For our membership, that has meant that NISS expenses have been spread over an increasing number of companies. This results in individual member company NISS costs being a declining percentage of the entire NISS operation. A very good deal when every insurer is watching its bottom line.
