NISS recently announced the formation of a subsidiary entity – NISS Data Services, Inc. We gave this a lot of thought before embarking on this venture, but our Board concluded that there are additional services that are wanted and needed by property/casualty insurers and that the NISS staff has the expertise to assist them. For example, most insurers have systems to perform conversions for statistical agent reports. We’ve made the case before that it is just common sense that if NISS could perform those conversions, instead of numerous insurers doing them, then there must be some cost savings and improved data quality as a result.

We have converted individual company data codes and formats to NISS codes and formats. We have converted other statistical agent codes and formats to NISS formats. We have performed numerous data conversions over the years and have become very good at it. This is just one key area within the services that will now be provided by NISS Data Services, Inc.

Here is what we are prepared to offer:

• Conversion of data on NISS Data Services, Inc. systems
  
• Development of company statistical plans
  
• Data capture and report specification analysis
  
• On-site training in statistical reporting
  
  

As I noted above, we gave the creation of NISS Data Services, Inc. a lot of thought. Our board of directors and member companies are insistent that we not add anything to our overall mission that will detract from the excellent service we provide as a statistical agent. We are convinced that we won’t do that, can’t do that, but that we can provide non-statistical agent services related to the gathering and reporting of property/casualty statistics and do it in the same cost effective, professional manner as NISS member companies are accustomed to receiving.
