About NISS
NISS is a unique resource for the property/casualty insurance industry. We collect and report timely, quality insurance data, and perform other related functions, at a reasonable cost.

We have gained a reputation for doing one thing... and doing it right. While other statistical agencies try to be all things to all companies, we have focused simply on being an outstanding resource for statistical reporting in compliance with state regulatory requirements.

For over 40 years, we've been providing statistical services to our member companies, by focusing on the following:

Service
Lots of companies can compile numbers. We believe that how those numbers are compiled and the people compiling them is just as important. That's why we work so hard to ensure that statistical reporting is fast, clear and easy for our member companies. We respond to questions quickly and accurately. We remain flexible to accommodate varied reporting requirements. And we keep our members constantly informed as to the latest developments in the industry.

Efficiency
Reducing the time and resources required for submission and processing of data is how we help the bottom line of every NISS member company. Our Statistical Plans are developed to meet the minimum regulatory reporting requirements, and to allow for expansion of these requirements as the need arises. To facilitate the process, our member companies can submit statistical data on many different media - magnetic tape (round reel or cartridge), microcomputer diskette, CD-ROM, e-mail or paper.

Accuracy
The quality of the data that NISS provides is of paramount importance. NISS member company data reports are subjected to rigorous edit, reasonability and completeness checks. We adhere to the NISS Data Quality Policy adopted in 1995, and regularly reviewed by the board of directors at NISS. To assist members with improving the accuracy of data they collect, NISS publishes Statistical Bulletins to inform member companies of regulatory changes, and Edit Tables, which set forth valid coding for individual data elements.

Timeliness
We work closely with member companies to ensure that all required reports are filed with regulators in accordance with published deadlines. To accomplish this, NISS is committed to processing member company data submissions, and reporting data problems in a timely fashion. Our processing guidelines are published in our NISS Data Quality Policy.

Economy

We place an extremely high priority on expense control. In fact, NISS assessments have increased by an average of only 2% per year during the last 10 years. We assess our members on a calendar-year basis, payable in quarterly installments, based on their proportionate share of annual NISS expenses. There are no minimum assessment fees, or membership fees. Member companies are only assessed for reported data.
